Rock Hall receives $5M endowment gift from NYC foundation

In yesterday's Plain Dealer, John Soeder reported on the five million dollar gift from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation based in New York City. The funds, raised through concerts by hall of fame musicians given in New York City last fall, are intended to begin a endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum located in downtown Cleveland. Since its opening in 1995, the museum has operated without an endowment.

Museum curator introduces new fossil in hominid family tree

Dr. Yohannes Haile-Selassie has done it again! This week the Cleveland Museum of Natural History announced that Dr. Haile-Selassie and his team researching human origins in the Woranso-Mille region of his native Ethiopia discovered a new member of our ever-evolving hominid family tree. The latest addition, discovered during the 2005 field season and published this week in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, belongs to Lucy's species, Australopithecus afarensis, but differs greatly in size and stature from her short, slight build. Nicknamed "Kadanuumu," "big man" in the Afar language, this fellow lived 400,000 years before Lucy and would have stood between 5 and 5 1/2 feet tall, up to two feet taller than Lucy.
